Nitish Kumar Step Down: Why He Handed Bihar CM Post to BJP

Nitish Kumar Step Down from Bihar CM post and hands power to Samrat Choudhary

The Nitish Kumar Step Down decision surprised many in Bihar politics. Senior JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary explained that the move was a personal decision by Nitish Kumar after he was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Nitish Kumar chose to leave the chief minister’s post and focus on national politics.

Chaudhary said Kumar has always taken firm decisions in his political career. Even though some party leaders requested him to stay as chief minister, he did not change his mind. After winning the Rajya Sabha election, he stepped down and allowed a new government to take charge.

The Janata Dal (United) also supported giving the chief minister’s post to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Leaders said the BJP had supported Kumar as CM for nearly two decades in the National Democratic Alliance. In return, the party decided to give the opportunity to BJP leader Samrat Choudhary to lead the state government.

Samrat Choudhary has now taken charge as Bihar’s chief minister. JD(U) leaders say the government will continue the same development and governance model started during Nitish Kumar’s long tenure.
