A new Fake Census Link Cyber Fraud has emerged in Bihar, where cyber criminals trick people into clicking a fake census link and steal money from their bank accounts. Several victims in Patna and Muzaffarpur have already lost money through this scam.
In this Fake Census Link Cyber Fraud, scammers pretend to be census officials. They send SMS, WhatsApp messages, or make phone calls asking people to complete a self-census form. The message includes a fake link. When victims click the link, malware enters their phones and allows criminals to access banking details.
Police said a man in Patna lost ₹25,000, while a woman in Muzaffarpur lost ₹10,000 after clicking such links. Rural areas are being targeted because many people are not fully aware of online fraud.
Officials warned that the census department never asks for OTPs or personal banking information through calls or messages. Citizens should avoid unknown links and report suspicious activity to the cybercrime helpline 1930.
