The Bandi Bhagirath arrest issue has triggered strong political reactions in Telangana. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the Bandi Bhagirath arrest case must be handled strictly under the law, without any political pressure.
Bhagirath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, faces serious allegations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. A complaint was filed by the family of a 17-year-old girl accusing him of assault. Telangana Congress leaders said justice for the victim should remain the top priority.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said crimes against women and minors must be treated with utmost seriousness. He appreciated the victim and her family for coming forward and filing a complaint despite the accused belonging to an influential political family.
He also stated that under the POCSO law, a minor cannot legally give consent. Therefore, attempts to portray the issue as a consensual relationship or settle it through compromise should not be accepted.
