Petrol Ethanol Blending Increased to 30%: Centre’s Big Step Toward Cleaner Fuel

Petrol ethanol blending increased to 30 percent in India fuel policy

The petrol ethanol blending increased decision marks a major policy shift by the central government to reduce fuel imports and promote cleaner energy. The government has now allowed petrol ethanol blending increased levels of up to 30 percent in petrol across the country.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued new quality standards for petrol blends such as E22, E25, E27 and E30. These standards will allow fuel stations to supply petrol with higher ethanol content in the coming years.

The move aims to cut crude oil imports, protect the environment and strengthen India’s energy security. Ethanol is produced from crops like sugarcane and maize, which means farmers may also benefit from higher demand.

The government is also exploring higher blends such as E85 and E100 in the future. Officials believe this shift will accelerate the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles and support the country’s long-term renewable energy goals.
