As the Vice Presidential elections near, Telangana’s ruling BRS has decided to stay neutral, avoiding support for either side. Party leaders believe that backing any camp could draw criticism in the state’s sensitive political climate.
In the 2022 election, BRS supported UPA’s Margaret Alva. However, with Congress now in power in Telangana and BRS serving as the main opposition, relations have soured. This shift makes it difficult for BRS to align with the opposition’s nominee.
The INDI alliance has fielded Justice Sudarshan Reddy, a Telangana native and respected figure in the statehood movement. Known for his political neutrality, Reddy has been projected as a candidate representing Telangana’s regional interests. Despite this, BRS remains firm in its neutral stand.
Currently, the party has four Rajya Sabha MPs—Suresh Reddy, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Damodar Rao, and Pardhasaradhi Reddy—who will abstain from taking sides in the vote.
