The Union Ministry of Environment has approved the second phase of the NTPC power project in Telangana. This project, located at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district, was promised under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act to strengthen power supply in the state.

In the first phase, NTPC constructed units with a total capacity of 1,600 MW. The second phase will add 2,400 MW capacity. Agreements on land acquisition, water supply, and coal supply have already been finalized, ensuring smooth progress for the expansion.

The Telangana government submitted proposals for environmental clearance on January 28 after completing public consultations. Following the review, the central ministry granted clearance, marking a key milestone for the project’s advancement.

By 2030, NTPC plans to build three new plants with a total capacity of 800 MW each. Officials said power generated will be sold at ₹4.12 per unit, which is expected to strengthen Telangana’s energy security and support industrial growth.
