The Telangana government has decided to honor legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam by installing a bronze statue of him at the Ravindra Bharati premises in Hyderabad. The statue will be placed beside the existing memorial of another music icon, Ghantasala, creating a cultural landmark that celebrates India’s greatest voices.
Members of the statue installation committee, along with officials from the Department of Culture, have already inspected the site to finalize arrangements. The construction is expected to be completed soon, adding a permanent tribute to the acclaimed singer.
SP Balasubrahmanyam , fondly known as the “Gaana Gandharva,” passed away on September 25, 2020 , due to COVID-related complications. With over 40,000 songs recorded in multiple Indian languages, his legacy continues to inspire generations of music lovers. The government’s initiative aims to preserve his memory and honor his contribution to Indian music and culture.
