Punjab opener Abhishek Sharma delivered a sensational performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, smashing a blazing 32-ball century against Bengal in the Elite Group C match. Leading Punjab as captain, he chose to bat first and partnered with Prabhsimran Singh to give the team a dream start.
Abhishek attacked from the very first ball, bringing up his fifty in just 12 deliveries, equalling the legendary Yuvraj Singh’s record for the fastest T20 fifty by an Indian. He also hammered 23 runs in an over off senior pacer Mohammed Shami.
The Punjab star went on to score a breathtaking 148 runs off 52 balls, hitting 8 fours and 16 sixes, powering his team to a massive 310/5 in 20 overs. This knock marked his 8th T20 century in 157 innings, placing him level with Rohit Sharma among Indian batters with the most T20 hundreds. Only Virat Kohli, with nine hundreds, is ahead.
His explosive form comes as a huge boost for India ahead of the upcoming South Africa T20 series and next year’s T20 World Cup.
