Supreme Court hearing in CBI appeal with accused in their 60s, 70s, 80s

The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on the CBI’s appeal against Lalu Prasad Yadav’s bail in the Deoghar fodder scam case to April 22. The bench noted that many accused in their 60s, 70s, 80s are involved in the case. The court said several replies are still pending and some accused have even died over the years.

During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju argued that the Jharkhand High Court wrongly suspended the sentence after conviction. He said the order did not follow established legal principles.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Yadav, told the court that many accused have not yet filed their responses.

The court observed that the matter is old and involves elderly accused. It directed authorities to formally close cases where accused have died and fixed the next hearing for April 22.
