Agriculture Minister Ram Nath Adhikari Resigns Amid Nepal Protests

Agriculture Minister Ram Nath Adhikari resignation

Agriculture Minister Ram Nath Adhikari Resigns Amid Nepal Protests, citing the government’s violent crackdown that left 19 people dead. His decision came a day after former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak also resigned, accepting moral responsibility for the tragedy.

Adhikari, aligned with the Shekhar Koirala faction of the Nepali Congress, said he could not remain in power after the state unleashed force on youths demanding accountability. “Instead of recognising citizens’ right to protest, the state responded with killings and suppression,” he wrote in his letter.

The resignation of Agriculture Minister Ram Nath Adhikari amid Nepal protests has increased pressure on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Leaders like Gagan Thapa demanded Oli’s resignation, blaming him for the deaths and accusing the government of authoritarian behavior.

Meanwhile, protests continued in Kathmandu despite heavy curfews. Youths gathered near Parliament and blocked roads in defiance, calling for accountability and change. The violent crackdown marked Nepal’s deadliest civilian unrest in years.

Prime Minister Oli promised an investigation and relief for victims, but anger continues to grow across the nation.
