Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to review the security and political situation in Manipur as President’s Rule in the northeastern state approaches its conclusion. Officials said the visit is aimed at assessing law and order and guiding the transition back to an elected government.
President’s Rule has been in effect in Manipur since June last year, following a political crisis that led to the collapse of the state government. During his visit, Shah is expected to meet senior officials from the state administration, as well as security forces, to review preparations for a smooth transfer of power.
“The Home Minister’s assessment will focus on ensuring peace, security, and administrative readiness as Manipur moves towards resuming normal democratic governance,” said a senior government official.
Manipur has faced multiple challenges in recent months, including ethnic tensions and insurgency-related incidents. Security forces have been deployed to sensitive areas to maintain law and order. Analysts say Shah’s visit signals the Centre’s intent to closely monitor the situation and support a stable political transition.
In addition to reviewing security measures, Amit Shah is expected to hold discussions with political leaders and officials on administrative and developmental priorities. The Union Home Ministry has emphasized that maintaining communal harmony and protecting civilian lives remain top priorities.
Local residents expressed cautious optimism ahead of the Home Minister’s visit. “We hope the review leads to stronger security measures and a return to normal governance,” said a resident of Imphal.
The end of President’s Rule marks a crucial juncture for Manipur’s political landscape. Authorities are keen to ensure that the state returns to elected governance without disruption while addressing ongoing security and development concerns.
