India scripted history at the Speed Skating World Championships in China , with Anandkumar Velkumar clinching the nation’s first-ever gold medal in the sport. The 22-year-old speedster emerged as the world champion in the senior men’s 1000m sprint , clocking an impressive timing of 1:24.924. With this remarkable feat, Velkumar became the first Indian to achieve a world title in speed skating.

Earlier in the tournament, Velkumar had already made headlines by securing a bronze medal in the 500m sprint , showcasing his consistency and dominance on the global stage. His back-to-back podium finishes highlight India’s rising stature in international skating competitions.
