Two days after JDU candidate Anant Singh’s arrest in a murder case, Union Minister and senior JDU leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, alleged a political conspiracy behind it. Campaigning in Mokama, he claimed that Anant Singh would win the upcoming November 6 election by a record margin.
Lalan Singh, a Bhumihar leader and Nitish Kumar’s close aide, said several videos of the incident were circulating online. “The case looks like a setup. The police will uncover the truth,” he told NDTV.
Anant Singh, a five-time MLA with 28 criminal cases, faces RJD’s Veena Devi, wife of rival strongman Suraj Bhan. Lalan Singh dismissed criticism over campaigning for a “tainted” candidate, saying, “Arrest doesn’t make anyone a criminal. Investigations will reveal facts.”
Dular Singh Yadav, the murder victim, had been supporting Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi. However, Prashant Kishor denied any official link between Yadav and his party.
Doctors said Yadav died from internal injuries caused by a blunt object, not the bullet wound found on his leg. Along with Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram have been arrested. Mokama votes on November 6, and results will be declared on November 14.
