At the Mangalagiri 6th Battalion grounds, the 22nd batch passing-out parade of the police dog squad took place on Tuesday morning. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and DGP Harish Kumar Gupta attended as chief guests. The Home Minister received a guard of honor from the police and later watched impressive dog demonstrations.
Addressing the gathering, Home Minister Anitha said sniffer dogs handle tasks beyond the reach of advanced technology. She announced that 35 trained dogs will soon join the force, boosting policing strength. She praised the squad’s role in ensuring public safety and highlighted its importance in crime prevention.
DGP Harish Kumar Gupta explained that, for the first time in Andhra Pradesh police history, dogs have been trained to detect drugs. He noted that the force has intensified efforts to curb marijuana and narcotics with these specialized units.
The DGP added that constant surveillance and strict checks are now in place. He said modern technology combined with skilled dog squads already reduced crime across Andhra Pradesh, strengthening the police system further.
