Andhra Pradesh Sees 14 Lakh MGNREGA Workers Drop Off Rolls Amid e-KYC Drive
A recent report by LibTech India reveals that approximately 14 lakh MGNREGA workers in Andhra Pradesh have dropped off the rolls in the past six weeks during the State’s e-KYC verification push. Despite this, Andhra Pradesh has achieved the highest e-KYC completion rate in India, with about 79% of all workers and 86% of active workers successfully completing the process.
The e-KYC initiative aims to streamline payments, reduce fraudulent entries, and ensure transparency in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Officials stated that while the short-term drop in registered workers is significant, the push ensures that only eligible and verified individuals remain on the rolls, thereby improving the efficiency and integrity of the program.
The report suggests that ongoing efforts to support workers in completing e-KYC, including awareness campaigns and local facilitation, are critical to maintaining participation and preventing exclusion of genuine beneficiaries.
