AP Deputy CM Pawan Calls for State to Become National Role Model in Mangrove Conservation
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister P. Pawan Kumar Reddy has emphasised that the State should emerge as a national role model in mangrove conservation. Speaking at an environmental awareness event in Vijayawada, he highlighted the critical role mangroves play in protecting coastal areas from natural disasters such as cyclones, floods, and erosion, particularly in the Krishna and Godavari river basins.
The Deputy CM stressed the need to protect existing mangrove forests while expanding new plantations along vulnerable coastal stretches. He called for coordinated efforts between government agencies, local communities, and environmental organisations to ensure sustainable management and restoration of mangrove ecosystems.
Officials said Andhra Pradesh plans to integrate mangrove conservation into its broader climate resilience and disaster management strategies. Pawan noted that increased awareness, scientific planning, and community participation would be key to minimising the impact of frequent natural calamities and safeguarding livelihoods dependent on coastal and marine resources. The initiative aims to position the State as a benchmark for mangrove preservation nationwide.
