Attack on CJI Assault on Democracy’s Soul: Hemant Soren

Attack on CJI Assault on Democracy’s Soul

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condemned the attack on Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, calling it an “assault on the soul of democracy.” The attack on CJI occurred inside the Supreme Court on Monday, triggering outrage across the country.

In a post on X, Soren wrote, “I strongly condemn this cowardly act. The attack on CJI Gavai Ji is an assault on the soul of democracy.” He said that anyone who harms the dignity of the judiciary raises a hand against the nation’s Constitution.

An elderly lawyer reportedly threw a bundle of papers toward the CJI during case mentions. Security officers intervened quickly, and the act drew immediate criticism from lawyers and citizens alike.

Soren said the independence of the judiciary is the foundation of democracy. He urged authorities to ensure the safety and respect of judicial institutions. “Protecting the dignity of our courts protects the spirit of the Constitution,” he added.
