Avalanche hits Sonamarg, no casualty as a massive wall of snow swept through the popular tourist resort in central Kashmir on late Tuesday night. Officials confirmed that no loss of life occurred despite the intensity of the incident.
According to authorities, the avalanche struck Sonamarg in Ganderbal district at around 10:12 p.m. CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment as snow rushed down the slope and engulfed nearby buildings. However, rescue teams quickly assessed the area and found no casualties.
Meanwhile, officials said the region had remained under close watch due to weather conditions. Earlier, on Monday, authorities issued a warning of a high-danger avalanche in several vulnerable zones of the district. As a result, emergency services stayed on alert throughout the night.
In addition, Sonamarg and other parts of the Kashmir Valley received moderate to heavy snowfall over the past 24 hours. Continuous snowfall increased avalanche risk in higher reaches, prompting repeated advisories for residents and tourists.
Furthermore, officials urged people to avoid avalanche-prone areas and strictly follow safety instructions. They also advised tourists to stay indoors during night hours and remain in touch with local authorities.
