Bangladesh approves shooting team India tour

Bangladesh approves shooting team India tour, clearing the way for its shooters to compete in the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi next month. The approval comes just days after Bangladesh’s cricket team refused to tour India, a decision that cost them a spot in the T20 World Cup.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, the Sports Ministry granted permission to a three-member contingent. The team includes shooter Robiul Islam, coach Sharmin Akhter, and jury member Saima Feroze. They will travel to Delhi to participate in the continental event.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s cricket decision triggered a major setback. The International Cricket Council replaced Bangladesh with Scotland after the team cited security concerns and declined to play in India. The ICC rejected requests to shift matches to Sri Lanka, calling such changes unworkable at a late stage.

However, shooting officials struck a different tone. National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) Secretary General Pawan Singh confirmed Bangladesh’s participation. He said the entry received confirmation nearly a month ago and followed standard clearance procedures.

Moreover, Singh noted that the Bangladeshi contingent did not ask for additional security. He explained that the team has competed in India several times and remains familiar with strict international protocols.

The Asian Shooting Championships will take place in New Delhi from February 2 to February 14, drawing top shooters from across Asia.
