Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana Breaks Silence on Assault Claims

Bangladesh

Bangladesh women’s cricket captain Nigar Sultana has firmly denied accusations that she assaulted junior players. The claims came from senior pacer Jahanara Alam, who alleged that Sultana “beats up juniors” during team activities. Alam shared her comments with Bangladeshi outlet Kaler Kantho. She last played for Bangladesh in 2024.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board quickly dismissed the allegations. Board officials said they trust Sultana and the current team environment. They also stressed that no complaint of this nature has ever reached them.

Sultana has now responded with confidence and humour. She questioned why she would hit anyone and referenced Harmanpreet Kaur’s famous 2023 outburst. “Why would I strike the stumps with my bat? Am I Harmanpreet?” she said in an interview with Daily Cricket. She explained that she might hit objects in her personal space but never a teammate. She urged people to ask other players if she had ever behaved that way.

Sultana’s comment points back to the 2023 ODI series between India and Bangladesh. In the final match, Harmanpreet smashed the stumps after a disputed LBW call. India later tied the series 1-1, but the incident led to a two-match ban for the Indian captain.

Sultana says the current claims hold no truth and hopes the team can move forward.
