Bank Holidays in October 2025: Branch Closures and State-Wise Dates

Calendar showing October 2025 bank holidays and state-wise closures

In October 2025, bank branches across India will remain closed for up to 21 days, combining RBI-declared holidays and weekends. While offline banking services will pause on these days, online banking and digital transactions will continue to operate normally.

Bank holidays include national observances as well as state-specific festivals, meaning closures may vary depending on your location. For example, Kati Bihu will lead to closures in Assam but not in other states.

The RBI classifies bank holidays under three categories:

  1. Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act

  2. Holidays under NI Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement

  3. Banks’ closing of accounts

October’s holidays include major festivals such as Navaratri, Dussehra, Durga Puja, Diwali, Karva Chauth, and Chhath Puja, along with commemorative days like Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday.

Here are the key dates in October 2025:

  • Oct 1–4: Navaratri ends, Maha Navami, Dussehra, Durga Puja

  • Oct 6–7: Lakshmi Puja, Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti, Kumar Purnima

  • Oct 10: Karva Chauth

  • Oct 18: Kati Bihu (Assam)

  • Oct 20–23: Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, Kali Puja, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj

  • Oct 27–28: Chhath Puja

  • Oct 31: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday

Additionally, weekends–second and fourth Saturdays, and all Sundays–will be observed as holidays: Oct 5, 11, 12, 19, 25, 26.

Knowing these dates in advance helps plan banking transactions efficiently and also allows for scheduling long weekends around festival closures.
