Heavy police deployment continues in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after authorities conducted a bulldozer action on Dr. Nafees’ property. Dr. Nafees, an associate of Maulana Tauqeer Raza, faced arrest in connection with the ‘I Love Muhammad’ protests. These protests, which took place on September 26, resulted in stone-pelting outside Ala Hazrat Dargah and Maulana Raza Khan’s residence. The unrest caused widespread concern across the city.
The bulldozer operation targeted Dr. Nafees’ property, locally called ‘Raza Palace,’ in the Jakheera area. The Bareilly Development Authority (BDA) said the demolition was part of a regular anti-encroachment drive to remove illegal structures. Critics, however, claim the action appears politically motivated due to its timing and targeted nature.
So far, police have arrested 83 people linked to the unrest, including Dr. Nafees and his son, Farman Khan. The state government suspended mobile internet services in Bareilly to prevent misinformation and maintain public order.
Opposition leaders and legal experts have questioned the demolition’s legality. They warn it could violate constitutional rights. Residents of Jakheera expressed mixed feelings—some supported enforcement of the law, while others decried what they called selective action.
The demolition and police presence have kept tensions high. Authorities stress they will continue monitoring the area and ensure safety. Meanwhile, political debate grows over balancing law enforcement with civil rights. The Bareilly bulldozer action has become a focal point for discussions on governance and justice.
