Bhagalpur has long been seen as a BJP stronghold, but Congress has managed to win the last three elections here. Still, the party is worried because its margin of victory is shrinking each time. The coming election in Bhagalpur is expected to be a tough fight, with both BJP and Congress treating it as a prestigious seat.
Historically, Bhagalpur has shifted between Congress, BJP, Jan Sangh, and Janata Party. Leaders like Vijay Kumar Mitra and Ashwini Kumar Choubey once dominated, while Congress leader Ajit Sharma has held the seat since 2014. Despite Congress’s recent wins, BJP continues to put strong efforts to reclaim this seat.
Local issues play a big role in elections. People of Bhagalpur face problems like waterlogging under Bholanath Bridge, poor drainage, traffic jams, and lack of drinking water. Although projects such as new ROBs and sewerage schemes were approved, residents feel progress is too slow.
Bhagalpur is not just political—it is also a city of culture. Famous novelist Sharat Chandra and film icons Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar have roots here. This cultural pride mixes with local frustrations, making the Bhagalpur election highly competitive this time.
