The Congress Working Committee meeting in Patna turned into both a strategy session and a reminder of history. AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh recalled the 1940 Ramgarh session, where the Congress first committed to forming a Constituent Assembly. This move laid the foundation for India’s Constitution.
Ramesh pointed out that while the Congress championed the Constituent Assembly, the RSS strongly opposed it at the time. He even shared a page from Jai Gopal Narang’s book Constituent Assembly and Our Demand, which carried a foreword by Jawaharlal Nehru, the key advocate of the idea.
At the current extended CWC meeting, Congress leaders—including chief ministers, PCC presidents, and CLP leaders—are not just reflecting on history. They are also shaping their Bihar assembly election strategy. The focus will be on countering the BJP and raising the issue of alleged “vote chori.”
The historical reference serves a dual purpose—reminding supporters of Congress’ role in framing the Constitution and sharpening its present-day attack against the BJP-RSS.
