Rahul Gandhi’s Bihar Yatra Sparks Hope for Congress Revival

“Rahul Gandhi addressing a rally during Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar”

The Bihar Assembly elections in 2025 have gained momentum with Congress hoping for a revival after decades of decline. Since 1990, state politics has largely been dominated by Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Janata Dal, while Congress remained a minor ally. In the last assembly polls, the party contested 70 seats but won only 19, highlighting its weak position.

Rahul Gandhi’s recently concluded Voter Adhikar Yatra brought fresh energy to the Congress rank and file. Covering 1,300 km across 25 districts in just two weeks, the yatra drew large crowds. For the first time in years, Congress flags were seen alongside those of RJD and INDIA bloc partners. The final rally showcased the presence of national leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Hemant Soren, Akhilesh Yadav, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, signaling renewed cohesion.

Rahul’s fiery speech, marked by the slogan Vote chor, gaddi chhor, accused the ruling NDA of undermining democracy and rights. Tejashwi Yadav also attacked Nitish Kumar’s government for copying RJD’s welfare schemes in weaker forms. Their combined rhetoric boosted morale among Congress workers and revived optimism for a stronger alliance.

Analysts caution, however, that enthusiasm alone may not convert into seats. Congress still lacks a strong voter base compared to RJD and BJP. Yet, Rahul’s yatra has put the party back in Bihar’s political conversation, offering it a chance to regain relevance.
