Cybercrime in Bihar is growing fast, spreading beyond the earlier hotspots of Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Jamui, and Gaya. Now, even border areas are reporting major cases. The key phrase cybercrime in Bihar highlights how digital fraud is rising in the state.
Investigations show that young people in rural Bihar are learning cyber fraud through YouTube tutorials. One such case involved Rampravesh Kumar, a CSC operator from Madhepura. He illegally accessed the Aadhaar website, uploaded its portal software, and created multiple fake sites using cheap source codes. These sites stored stolen Aadhaar biometric data.
Rampravesh also built a website for Mukesh Mahato of Jamtara, an accused in the Supaul SIM box scam. Authorities found that fraudsters are using internet resources to run SIM box and Aadhaar scams. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has written to social media companies to remove harmful content.
Between January and August 2025, Bihar recorded 53,792 online complaints of cybercrime—around 225 per day. Losses touched ₹65.16 crore, though only ₹4.61 crore was recovered. Bihar now ranks fourth in India for FIRs in cyber fraud. Clearly, cybercrime in Bihar is a rising threat that demands stronger action.
