Bihar Government Transfer Ban: No Transfers for Officials Until March 2027

Bihar Government Transfer Ban for census officials until March 2027

The Bihar Government Transfer Ban has stopped the transfer of certain government employees and officers until 31 March 2027. The state government introduced this decision after receiving instructions from the central government. The move aims to ensure that the upcoming national census work continues smoothly without disruption.

Under the Bihar Government Transfer Ban, employees and officers involved in census duties will remain in their current postings. The Revenue and Land Reforms Department sent instructions to all districts, asking them not to transfer officials engaged in census work. This rule applies across government departments where staff members participate in census activities.

The census process in India began on 1 April 2026. In Bihar, the self-enumeration phase will run from 17 April to 1 May 2026. During this period, residents can submit family details online through the government portal.

After that, officials will conduct house listing from 2 May to 31 May 2026. Enumerators will visit homes to verify the information submitted online and collect details about housing and infrastructure.

The second and most important phase of the census will take place in February 2027. During this stage, enumerators will collect detailed information about every household member. The census will also include caste data and will run fully in digital mode.
