Bihar Launches Women’s Empowerment Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches Bihar Women Empowerment Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Bihar Women Empowerment Scheme virtually from Delhi, with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, and other officials joining from Patna. Women beneficiaries across the state also joined the virtual launch, marking a significant step towards promoting women’s livelihoods.

Under this Rs 7,500-crore initiative, one woman from each family in Bihar will receive financial assistance to start small-scale businesses or livelihood activities of their choice. The initial grant of Rs 10,000 is provided via direct benefit transfer, and women can later receive additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh to expand their enterprises.

The scheme focuses on diverse sectors including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other entrepreneurial ventures. Beneficiaries will also receive guidance and training through self-help groups and community resource persons to ensure successful implementation of their projects.

To further support women entrepreneurs, the state plans to enhance Gramin haat bazaars, providing a platform for selling products locally and improving income opportunities. Officials stated that the scheme is community-driven, encouraging active participation from women and local organizations to strengthen social and financial empowerment.

The Bihar Women Empowerment Scheme is seen as a key initiative ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, highlighting the government’s focus on women’s welfare and self-reliance. By combining financial aid with skill development and market support, the program aims to transform the socio-economic status of women across Bihar.
