Bihar may enact anti-conversion Love Jihad law after strong demands in the Assembly. During the Budget Session, several MLAs urged the government to bring strict rules to stop forced religious conversions through marriage. The issue created a heated discussion in the House.
Speaker Prem Kumar directed the Nitish government to study anti-conversion laws in other states. He said officials should review existing laws and decide whether Bihar needs similar legislation.
Some ruling party MLAs claimed that interfaith marriages and alleged inducements have led to forced conversions. They pointed to states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, where strict anti-conversion laws are already in place.
However, a senior minister clarified that the government has not yet prepared any formal proposal. The Assembly ended the discussion after brief remarks from both sides.
