In Bihar, CPI(ML) MLA Satyadev Ram arrested during nomination from Darauli, Siwan, has caused a major political stir. The incident took place when he went to submit his nomination papers following the Election Commission’s rules. Moments after filing, police detained him, leaving party members and supporters shocked.
The CPI(ML), an ally of the Grand Alliance, had announced 18 candidates, and six, including Satyadev Ram, filed nominations that day. The arrest was linked to a 2005 rail blockade case at Daraunda Railway Station. The Sonpur Railway Court had issued a permanent warrant against him. CPI(ML) State Secretary Kunal condemned the move, alleging it was politically motivated and carried out on the government’s orders.
Satyadev Ram claimed he was unaware of any warrant and called his arrest unjust. The CPI(ML) criticized the timing of the arrest, calling it an attempt to silence their voices during the election. The episode has now become a major discussion point in Bihar’s political circles.
