Nitish Kumar resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Tuesday, clearing the way for a Bihar New Chief Minister. The political development came after meetings between leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and alliance partners in the state.
Sources said the ruling alliance decided to choose a new leader for the post. Senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary is considered a strong contender for the position of Bihar New Chief Minister.
After submitting his resignation to the Governor, Nitish Kumar thanked party workers and coalition leaders for their support during his tenure.
Leaders from the BJP and alliance parties held discussions in Patna to finalise the next chief minister. The decision is expected to be announced soon.
According to party sources, the swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister may take place tomorrow in Patna. Several senior leaders from the alliance are expected to attend the event.
