The Bihar Women Commission reacts after controversial statement on Bihari girls and has taken a firm stand on the issue. The Commission moved quickly after a video showing an offensive remark went viral on social media. The comment triggered anger across Bihar.
The statement was made by Girdhari Lal Sahu, the husband of Uttarakhand’s Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister, Rekha Arya. In the video, Sahu allegedly said that girls from Bihar could be “found for ₹20,000–₹25,000.” Many people called the remark insulting and degrading.
Members of the Bihar State Women’s Commission said the comment hurt the dignity and self-respect of women from the state. They described the statement as unacceptable and shameful.
Commission chairperson Apsara wrote a formal letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. She demanded immediate action against Sahu and asked the state government to share details of the steps taken.
The Commission warned that it could pursue legal action if the response is unsatisfactory. Political leaders and women’s groups also condemned the remark and demanded accountability.
Later, Sahu said his words were misunderstood and expressed regret. Despite this, the controversy continues to spark debate on respect and safety for women.
