The Telangana BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, urging it to stop the proposed cabinet expansion. The party objected to reports that Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin may be appointed as a minister. BJP leaders said such a move during the Jubilee Hills by-election could influence votes from a particular community.
Deputy Floor Leader Payal Shankar and Election Commission Affairs Committee Chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy met Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy and submitted a formal representation. They argued that the Congress government was using Azharuddin’s possible appointment as a political tactic to attract voters.
The BJP accused the Telangana Chief Minister of violating the Model Code of Conduct. They claimed that even though the code does not cover all of Hyderabad, the decision could still affect voting in Jubilee Hills. The party urged the EC to delay any cabinet announcement until polling ends.
BJP leaders also pointed out that Azharuddin contested from Jubilee Hills in the 2023 Assembly elections. They said the timing of his proposed appointment was a deliberate attempt to sway voters in his favor.
