sAsam politics witnessed fresh turmoil after senior Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Bora resigned from the party, alleging insult and betrayal by the leadership. The development has intensified infighting within the Assam Congress. Responding sharply, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi rejected Bora’s charges and termed his resignation a “scripted move” aimed at joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Gogoi said leaders who move to the BJP are often handed a ready-made script to justify their decision. He questioned why Bora chose not to join any other party actively fighting the BJP in Assam. Gogoi pointed out that several regional and national parties continue to oppose the BJP in the state.
After resigning, Bora said he had served the Congress for 32 years and held several responsibilities, including APCC president. He alleged public humiliation over alliance and seat-sharing decisions. Bora also claimed he raised the issue with Rahul Gandhi, stating he could not accept such treatment.
Gogoi further questioned why Bora met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma within a day of resigning, calling the episode pre-planned and politically motivated.
