The BJP has attacked the opposition INDIA bloc’s vice presidential candidate Justice B Sudershan Reddy over his meeting with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in Patna. The meeting, which took place last week, has sparked controversy ahead of the vice presidential election.
Former Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called the meeting “hypocrisy,” pointing out that Lalu Yadav is convicted in the fodder scam. He said, “Justice Sudershan Reddy claims people should vote for him to save the soul of the nation. But he meets a leader convicted of corruption. What kind of a retired judge of the Supreme Court does this? Please don’t talk about the soul of the nation.”
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also hit out at Reddy, describing the meeting as “terrible optics” and a “shocking statement on probity in public life.” He accused Reddy of undermining the dignity of the high constitutional office he aspires to. Malviya further alleged that the silence of retired judges and constitutional commentators on this issue showed “hypocrisy.”
On September 4, Lalu Yadav shared photographs of the meeting with Justice Reddy on social media. The BJP’s criticism comes just a day before the vice presidential election.
