Blood Pressure Medication: Doctors Warn Against Suddenly Stopping BP Medicine

Doctor warning about stopping Blood Pressure Medication suddenly

Doctors have issued a serious warning about Blood Pressure Medication, saying patients should never stop it suddenly without medical advice. Experts say stopping Blood Pressure Medication abruptly can cause a sudden spike in blood pressure and increase the risk of life-threatening conditions.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar, a neurosurgeon at NMCH in Patna, explained that many people stop their BP tablets when their readings become normal. However, this can be dangerous. Without medicine, blood pressure may rise quickly due to stress, anger, or weather changes. This sudden rise can damage blood vessels and raise the risk of brain stroke, paralysis, or even death.

Doctors say high blood pressure is often called a “silent killer” because it may not show symptoms but can still damage the brain, heart, and kidneys over time. Stopping medicines suddenly can remove the protection that keeps blood pressure under control.

Experts also advise patients to manage stress with 25 minutes of daily meditation and maintain fitness with 40–45 minutes of exercise. Healthy diet and weight control also help prevent complications.
