Bomb threats ahead of PM Modi Jalandhar visit triggered heightened security measures on Saturday after authorities received threat messages for Dera Sachkhand Ballan and two schools in the city. The threats came just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the Dera on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 1, 2026.
Officials said the threatening emails were sent to the schools, but the content directly mentioned Dera Ballan. Police teams immediately swung into action and launched thorough security checks at the school premises. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units inspected the locations. Since it was a holiday, no students were present, which helped authorities conduct checks swiftly.
Senior police officers confirmed that teams are verifying the source of the emails. Cyber units have also joined the probe to trace the origin of the threats. Officials said they are treating the matter with seriousness due to the Prime Minister’s visit.
The bomb threats ahead of PM Modi Jalandhar visit come close to similar incidents reported earlier this week in Chandigarh. In those cases, investigators found no suspicious material. Over the past few months, schools in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, and Ambala have received comparable threats, which later proved to be hoaxes.
Despite this pattern, Punjab Police said they will not lower their guard. Authorities have tightened security arrangements around Dera Ballan and key routes ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
