The Jhunjhunu administration launched a major anti-encroachment drive in Rajasthan after strict directions from the National Green Tribunal. Bulldozers and tractors rolled into action on Wednesday to remove illegal occupation from the Katli river area.
Officials carried out the operation in Ked Gram Panchayat and nearby villages, including Khatkar, Nangli Nirvan, and Kirpura. The action covered nearly 400 bighas of river land. Authorities said outsiders had raised temporary and permanent structures inside the natural river flow zone.
The administration deployed police personnel to maintain law and order during the drive. Tehsildar Kuldeep Bhati supervised the operation along with the revenue and administrative teams. JCB machines demolished illegal constructions located within the river’s flow path.
Officials earlier identified 23 encroachments in the Katli river belt. The team removed 19 illegal structures during the drive. Authorities spared four locations due to a lack of resources. They confirmed that removal will continue once equipment becomes available.
The administration also took action against illegal farming on river land. Tractors destroyed standing crops grown through unauthorised cultivation. Officials said they had already issued written notices to encroachers before the action.
The district administration stated that it will continue strict enforcement to protect river land and prevent future encroachments.
