He said large-scale use of firewood increases air pollution and leads to cutting of trees. He also pointed out that many rural areas lack proper electric cremation facilities. According to him, electric crematoriums would reduce pollution and ease the burden on families.
His remarks drew sharp reactions from ministers. Vijay Sinha responded that the government already runs electric crematoriums in several cities. He added that officials will review the demand and consider expansion where needed.
The issue triggered strong political reactions inside the House.
