Chennai Police Investigate 342 Bomb Threats Since April, Central Agencies Also Probing
Since April 2025, the Chennai Police have received 342 bomb threats, all of which have been thoroughly investigated. The threats, mostly in the form of emails, prompted rapid response measures including searches, evacuation of sensitive locations, and coordination with intelligence agencies.
Chennai Police Commissioner R. Sivaraman stated that analysis of the language and phrasing in these emails indicates that a small group of miscreants may be responsible. The threats are not confined to Chennai, as similar emails and alerts have been reported in other parts of India.
Central agencies, including intelligence and cybersecurity divisions, are conducting parallel investigations to identify the origin of the messages and apprehend those responsible. The police emphasised that public safety remains the top priority, and citizens should stay alert but avoid panic. Security protocols in key areas, including educational institutions, government offices, and transport hubs, continue to be strengthened in response to these threats.
