Congress Assam election strategy became clear on Sunday after state party president Gaurav Gogoi announced key decisions for 2026. He said the Congress will contest 100 of Assam’s 126 Assembly seats. The remaining seats will go to alliance partners through mutual discussions.

Speaking at a meeting marking the Congress party’s 141st foundation day, Gogoi ruled out any alliance with the All India United Democratic Front. He described AIUDF as a communal party and said Congress would never partner with it under any circumstances.

Gogoi said the Congress will build a coalition with like-minded, secular parties to defeat what he called the anti-people BJP. He stressed that the party believes in peace, unity, and the Constitution. He accused the BJP of spreading division and weakening democratic institutions.

The Congress leader claimed that people lost dignity and rights under the current government. He promised to restore public trust and democratic values if Congress returns to power. Gogoi recalled the tenure of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi. He said welfare schemes during that period directly benefited the poor.

Gogoi also announced a strong stance against hate politics. He said a Congress government would introduce a strict law to act against those spreading religious hatred. He assured voters that a Congress-led government would deliver visible and positive change across Assam.
