Congress MLC Vijayashanti, popularly known as the “Lady Amitabh” for her film and political charisma, is facing criticism within her party for low activity. After rejoining Congress before the last Assembly polls in the presence of Mallikarjun Kharge, expectations were high that she would emerge as a star campaigner.
Her MLC seat, seen as recognition of her celebrity appeal, was intended to strengthen Congress’s outreach. However, party workers point out that she has largely stayed away from state programs and grassroots campaigns. Though she joined a few protests, including the BC reservation demonstration in Delhi, her public presence has remained limited.
With the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election and local body elections, party cadres expect her to step up and use her popularity to mobilize voters. Many believe active involvement could help Congress capitalize on her star power.
