Two Teachers in Andhra Pradesh Accused of Corporal Punishment Leading to Student Injuries

Two teachers in Andhra Pradesh are accused of assaulting students, leading to serious injuries. Investigations are underway in both cases.

A Class 6 student in Punganur, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, sustained a skull fracture in an alleged case of corporal punishment. The victim, Sathvika Nagasri, was reportedly struck on the head by her Hindi teacher, Saleema Basha, using a school bag containing a steel lunch box.

According to the police, the teacher hit the student in anger after she misbehaved in class. Initially, Sathvika’s mother, a Science teacher at the same school, did not recognize the seriousness of the injury. However, when Sathvika began complaining of severe headaches and dizziness, she was taken to multiple hospitals. Eventually, a CT scan at a private hospital in Bengaluru confirmed that she had a skull fracture.

The family has filed a complaint against both the teacher and the principal, leading to a police investigation. Punganur police have registered a case and begun probing the incident.

In a separate incident, a teacher in Visakhapatnam was accused of breaking the arm of a Class 8 student. The teacher allegedly struck the student’s arm with an iron table, causing multiple fractures. Doctors confirmed the arm was broken in three places. The teacher, Mohan, who teaches Social Sciences, is under investigation for this assault.
