The Andhra Pradesh government begins cotton procurement today through the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), offering relief to farmers affected by Cyclone Montha. Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu announced that 30 centres are ready across the state to prevent crop losses caused by heavy rains.
This year, cotton was grown in 4.56 lakh hectares, with an expected yield of eight lakh metric tonnes. The government will ensure farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹8,110 per quintal. Farmers can register at Rythu Seva Kendras through the CM app and book sale slots using the ‘Kapas Kisan’ app.
Atchannaidu instructed agriculture and marketing officers to coordinate operations and help farmers during procurement. He asked them to monitor the process closely and ensure smooth handling at all centres.
Addressing the cyclone situation, the minister said the government is fully prepared to manage crop damage. Advisory teams are working round the clock to support farmers. He also urged fishermen to stay away from the sea until weather conditions improve.
