Cyclone Ditwah Triggers Red Alert in South Coastal AP; Schools and Colleges Closed
Cyclone Ditwah has brought heavy rainfall across South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, prompting the Central Water Commission (CWC) to issue a red alert for the region. The state government has declared a holiday on December 1 for all government, private, aided, and Anganwadi schools, as well as government, private, and junior colleges, to ensure the safety of students. Additionally, the PGRS programme scheduled for the day has been cancelled.
District administrations in Prakasam, SPSR Nellore, and Tirupati, along with local ministers, have urged the public to stay alert and take necessary precautions. Authorities have been monitoring rivers, reservoirs, and low-lying areas to prevent flooding and other hazards.
Officials have also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and landslides. The government and disaster management teams are coordinating closely to ensure public safety and provide timely assistance to affected communities as Cyclone Ditwah continues to impact the coastal districts.
