Cyclone Motha Batters Andhra Pradesh, Heavy Rains Continue

Cyclone Motha Andhra Pradesh causes heavy rains, flooding, and crop damage; relief operations underway across the coast.

Andhra Pradesh was battered by Cyclone Motha, which made landfall in the Bay of Bengal late Tuesday night around 12:30 a.m. Despite weakening after crossing the coast, heavy rains have continued to lash several parts of the state. The weather conditions remain severe as the system has turned into a deep depression.

Continuous rainfall pounded the coastal districts from East Godavari to Srikakulam. Heavy downpours flooded low-lying areas, damaged crops, and disrupted road transport. Power supply was interrupted in multiple regions. East Godavari, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts have been severely hit.

The sea turned rough near Srikakulam as waves surged violently. Fishermen were warned not to venture into the sea. The Meteorological Department stated that the remaining moisture from Cyclone Motha will continue to bring rain for the next two days, including in border districts of Telangana.

State authorities have been mobilized for relief operations. Revenue, Panchayat, Electricity, and Disaster Management departments are working on emergency measures. The government has instructed officials to assess crop losses and provide assistance to affected farmers.
