Dalit Votes to Decide Kalyanpur Battle, Maheshwar Hazari Faces Tough Contest

Dalit votes in Kalyanpur Assembly seat, Bihar elections 2025, Maheshwar Hazari campaign

In the upcoming Bihar Elections 2025, the Kalyanpur Assembly seat in Samastipur is witnessing a close contest. The Dalit votes are expected to play a decisive role in determining the winner. This constituency, with over 3.24 lakh voters, includes 21% Scheduled Castes, 10% Muslims, and the rest from OBC and upper castes. The Paswan, Ravidas, Yadav, and Kushwaha communities hold strong influence.

JDU’s Maheshwar Hazari, Minister of Information and Public Relations, seeks re-election, facing CPI(ML)’s Ranjit Ram and Jansuraj’s Ram Balak Paswan. The seat has been under the Hazari family’s hold since 2010, continuing the political legacy of Ramsevak Hazari.

Voters are also concerned about local issues like floods, lack of industries, and unemployment. North Bihar’s only jute mill and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University are located here, but development remains limited.

The Dalit votes could once again decide victory or defeat, as candidates intensify door-to-door campaigns to consolidate support.
