Debashish Samantaray Resigns Over what he calls a “humiliating” party post, creating fresh debate within the Biju Janata Dal. The senior BJD leader sent his resignation letter directly to Naveen Patnaik and openly questioned the relevance of his new role.

Samantaray, known for decades of organisational work in Cuttack, said the party offered him a title that stripped senior leaders of dignity. He repeated that the designation did not respect the long service of veteran workers who shaped the party’s base. His decision gained attention because it highlights growing unease after BJD’s 2024 election defeat.

In his letter, Samantaray Resigns Over concerns that the party is drifting away from Biju Patnaik’s ideology. He said loyal workers still trust Naveen Patnaik, but internal decisions are creating confusion and discouragement. He also warned that the leadership ignored the real reasons behind the 2024 loss, even though “every worker knows the cause.”

Samantaray urged Naveen Patnaik to step in and protect the organisation from internal weakening. He added that he will continue as a dedicated BJD worker but refuses to accept any post that feels demeaning. His move has triggered questions about direction, discipline, and the future of Odisha’s largest regional party.
