Decks Cleared for T.N.

T.N. Govt to Build Periyar Memorial in Alappuzha: The Tamil Nadu government has approved ₹4 crore to construct a memorial at Arookutty in Alappuzha, Kerala, dedicated to social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy. Periyar played a pivotal role in the Vaikom Satyagraha and remains an icon of social justice and equality.

The foundation stone will be laid on September 26, 2025, jointly by Kerala Minister for Culture Saji Cherian and Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works E.V. Velu. The memorial aims to honor Periyar’s legacy while inspiring future generations about the importance of social reform.

The project includes educational displays, statues, and spaces for cultural events. These elements will ensure visitors learn about Periyar’s contributions to society and his work toward rationalism and social equality. Officials highlighted that the memorial will also promote tourism and cultural awareness in Alappuzha, benefiting the local community.

The initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between Kerala and Tamil Nadu to preserve the heritage of influential leaders. By creating this memorial, the governments aim to strengthen historical education and provide a platform for public engagement with social reform ideas.

The Tamil Nadu government expressed confidence that the memorial will become a landmark for cultural and social learning. It will attract scholars, students, and tourists while keeping Periyar’s vision alive in contemporary society.
