Hyderabad Commissioner Ranganath has announced that major encroachment removal drives along city nalas (drainage canals) will begin shortly. The move comes after inspections revealed that several illegal constructions along these nalas have been obstructing the smooth flow of floodwater, leading to urban flooding and drainage issues during heavy rains.
Ranganath clarified that only the most critical illegal structures causing direct obstruction to nala flow would be targeted for demolition. He further stated that the government is considering compensation or relief measures for those affected by the clearance drives, following discussions with relevant departments.
The Commissioner emphasized that this initiative is aimed at improving the city’s drainage system, preventing future flooding, and ensuring public safety. The planned action reflects Hyderabad’s increasing focus on sustainable urban planning and disaster management, especially in light of recent monsoon-related challenges.
